How to Make Pei Wei Teriyaki Sauce (4 Steps)
A chain of Asian restaurants, Pei Wei serves fast cuisine to diners in cities across the United States. One of the dishes on their menu, Japanese-style teriyaki combines meat, vegetables and rice with a tasty sauce.Teriyaki sauce blends sweet and salty in a flavorful condiment. Replicating this sauce at home requires only a handful of ingredients and 10 minutes of time.
Things You'll Need
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tsp. freshly grated ginger
- 1/2 tsp. granulated garlic
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp. molasses
- 1 tbsp. grated orange zest (optional)
- Saucepan
- Whisk
- 2 tbsp. cornstarch
Instructions

Combine 1 cup soy sauce, 1/2 cup water, garlic, ginger, brown sugar, molasses and orange zest in the saucepan.

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Whisk together the cornstarch and remaining 1/4 cup water.

Pour the combined cornstarch and water into the boiling sauce mixture. Reduce the heat to medium.

Continue to heat the sauce mixture for 5 minutes at a simmer, whisking the entire time, until slightly thickened. Remove sauce from heat, and let it stand while it continues to thicken. Whisk in 1 to 2 tbsp. water if the mixture becomes too thick for use.
