If a can of black olives hisses when opened is it bad?
A hissing sound when opening a can of black olives is a normal occurrence and does not indicate spoilage or contamination. The hissing sound is caused by the release of carbon dioxide gas produced by the fermentation process during olive preservation. This gas creates pressure inside the can, resulting in the hissing noise when it is opened. As long as the olives appear visually and smell normal, and the can is not damaged, the olives are safe to consume. However, if you observe any signs of spoilage, such as off-odors, discoloration, or visible mold, it is best to discard the olives.
