Why will a bottle of soft drink burst in the sun?
A bottle of soft drink will not burst in the sun unless it is frozen. As the ice cube melts, its volume increases because water expands by approximately 9% when turning from liquid to ice. The increased pressure inside the bottle can cause it to burst. To avoid this, never freeze soft drinks in glass bottles. Plastic bottles will generally not burst upon freezing due to their flexibility.
