How do you dye a lamp shade?
### Dyeing a lamp shade is a fun way to add a pop of color to your room. Here's how to do it:
Materials:
- Lamp shade
- Fabric dye
- Water
- Large pot or container
- Spoon
- Gloves
- Newspaper or plastic sheeting
Instructions:
1. Prepare your workspace. Cover your work surface with newspaper or plastic sheeting.
2. Wash the lamp shade. Remove any dust or dirt from the lamp shade by washing it with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse it thoroughly and let it dry completely.
3. Fill a pot with water. Fill a large pot or container with enough water to completely submerge the lamp shade.
4. Add the dye. Add the desired amount of fabric dye to the water, according to the package instructions. Stir until the dye is completely dissolved.
5. Bring the water to a simmer. Bring the water in the pot to a simmer, but do not boil it.
6. Add the lamp shade. Carefully place the lamp shade into the dye water. Make sure the entire shade is submerged.
7. Stir the lamp shade. Use a spoon to gently stir the lamp shade so that it evenly absorbs the dye.
8. Let the lamp shade dye. Let the lamp shade sit in the dye water for the amount of time specified on the dye package. The longer the lamp shade sits in the dye, the darker the color will be.
9. Rinse the lamp shade. Remove the lamp shade from the dye water and rinse it thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear.
10. Let the lamp shade dry. Hang the lamp shade in a well-ventilated area to dry completely.
11. Reattach the lamp shade. Once the lamp shade is dry, reattach it to the lamp base.
Tips:
- Test the dye on a small piece of fabric first to be sure you like the color.
- Wear gloves to protect your hands from the dye.
- Be careful not to boil the dye water, as this can damage the fabric of the lamp shade.
