How to Remove Preservatives From Red Wine Before Drinking
Red wine cannot be produced without adding any preservatives. However, many people have trouble drinking wine due to a reaction to added preservatives. This reaction may be caused by the preservative sulphur dioxide, which is found in red wines. The preservatives are added to wine during production, but can be removed right before drinking.
Instructions
-
Uncork the bottle of red wine. Pour into a wine glass. Remove preservatives from the bottle entirely or just a single glass.
-
Use a dropper to pick up a neutralizing agent such as dilute hydrogen peroxide. This agent helps remove sulphur dioxide from the wine. Sulphur dioxide, or sulfite, is a fruit preservative which is used in wine. Some people might get sick after consuming this sulfite due to their body's inability to break down this enzyme. Other people experience headaches after drinking wine which may be caused by the sulfite as well.
-
Add five drops of the neutralizing agent to the entire bottle of wine, or add one drop of this agent to every glass of wine.
-
Keep the wine open for up to 24 hours if you added the agent to the entire bottle, which is the longest amount of time for freshnesss after removing the preservatives.
