How many kingfishers are there left in the world?

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has assessed 95 kingfisher species globally and found that nine (nearly 10%) are threatened due to factors such as habitat degradation, invasive species, hunting, and overfishing of prey populations. However, many kingfisher species are widespread and relatively common, so it is impossible to state a precise or reliable figure for the population of kingfishers worldwide.
