Do hammerhead sharks reproduce all year round?

Hammerhead sharks do not reproduce all year round. Their reproductive cycles vary depending on the species and geographic location. For example, the scalloped hammerhead shark (Sphyrna lewini) in the Gulf of Mexico and northwestern Atlantic has a well-defined reproductive season from late spring to early summer, with peak activity in May and June. During this period, females release eggs which are fertilized by males and develop into embryos inside the mother's uterus. The gestation period lasts around 10-11 months, after which the female gives birth to live young. In contrast, the bonnethead shark (Sphyrna tiburo) in the same region is believed to have a more extended reproductive season, with females producing multiple broods throughout the year.
