What do jellyfish box do?
The box jellyfish (_Chironex fleckeri_) is a species of extremely venomous box jellyfish found in the coastal waters of Northern Australia and Papua New Guinea. It is considered to be one of the most venomous creatures in the world, with a sting that can be fatal to humans. The box jellyfish is also known as the sea wasp, stinger, and marine stinger.
Box jellyfish are typically found in shallow, coastal waters, such as bays and estuaries. They may also be found in open water, but they are most common near land. Box jellyfish are most active at night, but they can be found during the day as well.
The box jellyfish has a bell-shaped body that can grow up to 12 inches (30 cm) across. The bell is divided into eight sides, each of which has a cluster of stinging cells, or nematocysts. These nematocysts contain a venom that is extremely painful and can be fatal.
The box jellyfish uses its tentacles to capture prey. The tentacles are covered in nematocysts, which inject the venom when they come into contact with skin. The venom causes intense pain, swelling, and tissue destruction. In some cases, the venom can lead to paralysis or death.
The box jellyfish is not an aggressive creature, and it will not attack humans unless it is disturbed or threatened. However, it is important to be aware of the potential danger that it poses, and to take precautions when swimming in areas where box jellyfish are known to live.
Here are some tips for avoiding the box jellyfish:
* Swim at beaches that are patrolled by lifeguards. Lifeguards can spot box jellyfish and warn swimmers of danger.
* Swim during daytime hours. Box jellyfish are most active at night.
* Avoid swimming in areas with a history of box jellyfish stings.
* Wear protective clothing, such as a wetsuit or rash guard.
* If you see a box jellyfish, DO NOT touch it.
If you are stung by a box jellyfish, seek medical attention immediately. The venom can be fatal if not treated promptly.
