What is wok used for?

Stir-frying

This cooking technique involves heating a small amount of oil in a wok over high heat until it begins to smoke. Then, the food is added and tossed quickly until it is cooked through. Stir-frying is often used for quick and easy meals, such as Pad Thai or kung pao chicken.

Deep-frying

Woks are also great for deep-frying. To do this, heat a large amount of oil in a wok over medium heat until it reaches a temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, carefully add the food to the oil and fry until it is golden brown and cooked through. Deep-frying is often used for making tempura or fish and chips.

Steaming

Woks can also be used for steaming. To do this, place a steamer basket in the wok and add water to the bottom of the wok. Bring the water to a boil and then add the food to the steamer basket. Cover the wok and cook until the food is cooked through. Steaming is a healthy cooking method that preserves the nutrients in food.

Smoking

Woks are also great for smoking. To do this, place a small amount of smoking chips or sawdust in the bottom of a wok and heat it over medium heat until it begins to smoke. Then, place the food on a rack over the smoking chips and cover the wok. Smoke the food for the desired amount of time. Smoking is a great way to add flavor to foods, such as fish, chicken, or pork.
