Can brown chickens lay white eggs?

The color of a chicken's feathers and the color of their eggs are determined by separate genes.

* Earlobe color is a good indicator of egg color. Chickens with white earlobes will lay white eggs, while chickens with red earlobes will lay brown eggs.

* Breed also plays a role. Some breeds, like Leghorns, are known for laying white eggs, while others, like Rhode Island Reds, are known for laying brown eggs.

So, while you might think a brown chicken should lay brown eggs, it's not always the case!
