Dual-purpose cattle breeds are breeds of cattle that are raised for both milk and meat production, and are well suited for both. These breeds are typically medium to large in size and have good muscling and dairy characteristics. Some well known dual-purpose breeds include:
• Milking Shorthorn: Originated in England, knowns for both good milk and beef qualities
• Brown Swiss: Originated in Switzerland, with good milk yields and well rounded meat traits.
• Simmental: Originated in Switzerland and Germany, large sized with good milk production and well muscles
• Red Poll: Originated in England, suitable for both milk and beef production.
• Gelbvieh: Originated in Germany, combines good carcass traits and milk production.
