Who invented the macaroon?
Macaroons are believed to have originated in Italy, where they are known as "amaretti". While the exact origins are unclear, one popular theory suggests that Benedictine monks created the macaroon around the 15th century as a celebratory treat during feasts and religious holidays. The macaroon has since spread to various regions globally and undergone variations in ingredients and preparation methods depending on local cultures and preferences.
