How to Make Good Old Fashioned Spaghetti Sauce

Looking for a way to make good old fashioned spaghetti sauce? This recipe has been handed down from an Italian mom-mom and is simple to make, even for a novice. Read on.

Things You'll Need

  • 28 oz. Tomato Puree
  • 12 oz. Tomato Paste
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • Olive Oil
  • Garlic salt
  • Basil
  • Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Instructions

  1. Flatten and dice the garlic cloves. Put them in a pot with olive oil and lightly brown them.

  2. Add the tomato puree and tomato paste. Fill each empty can with water and add to the mixture (do this twice). Stir thoroughly (make sure you crush the tomato paste).

  3. Add the garlic salt, basil, and sugar. I don't measure out the garlic salt and basil, just use enough of each to coat the top of the sauce.

  4. Turn up the heat and the let the sauce come to a boil, stirring frequently (be sure to watch it so it doesn't burn at the bottom of the pot). After the sauce comes to a boil, turn down the heat, stirring frequently, for 2-3 hours. About 1/2 hour before serving, coat the top of the sauce with parmesan cheese.
