How do you clean lava stones in the stove top grill?
You can't really "clean" lava rocks in the traditional sense. They are porous and designed to absorb grease and oils. However, you can refresh them and extend their lifespan. Here's how:
1. Let them cool completely: Never attempt to clean lava rocks while they're still hot.
2. Remove and discard any large food debris: Use tongs to remove any big chunks of food that might be stuck to the rocks.
3. Preheat your oven to high heat (450-500°F): This will burn off any remaining grease and food residue.
4. Place the lava rocks on a baking sheet: Spread them out in a single layer to allow for maximum airflow.
5. Bake for 30-60 minutes: This will help to burn off any remaining food debris and sterilize the rocks.
6. Allow the rocks to cool completely: This will prevent them from cracking or shattering.
7. Optional: Soak in a vinegar solution: You can soak the rocks in a solution of white vinegar and water for a few hours to help remove any remaining grease. This is especially helpful if the rocks are particularly dirty.
8. Dry thoroughly: Make sure the rocks are completely dry before returning them to your grill.
Remember:
* Lava rocks can break if they're dropped or subjected to sudden temperature changes. Handle them with care.
* Over time, lava rocks will become brittle and need to be replaced. This usually happens after 1-2 years of regular use.
