What wood is used for burning?

Firewood, also called fuelwood, is any wood used for burning. Firewood is mostly obtained from trees, but can also be from other plants and organic matter. Seasoned wood is dried wood, and is used to burn hotter and with less smoke than green wood.

Types of wood for burning

Different tree species are classified as hardwoods and softwoods:

- Hardwood: This type of wood is usually denser than softwood and usually produces a higher heat value because of its density and low moisture content. Common hardwoods for burning include oak, ash, maple, and birch.

- Softwood: This type of wood typically burns quicker than hardwood, producing a higher flame and more embers. Common softwoods for burning include pine, spruce, fir, and hemlock.
