How long to grill an 8 pound filet?
Filet mignon is a small, tender cut of beef that is typically grilled or pan-seared. The cooking time for an 8-pound filet will vary depending on the thickness of the steak and the desired doneness.
For a 1-inch thick filet, grill over medium-high heat for 5-7 minutes per side for medium-rare, or 7-9 minutes per side for medium.
For a 1 1/2-inch thick filet, grill over medium-high heat for 7-9 minutes per side for medium-rare, or 9-11 minutes per side for medium.
For a 2-inch thick filet, grill over medium-high heat for 9-11 minutes per side for medium-rare, or 11-13 minutes per side for medium.
To check for doneness, insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the steak. The internal temperature should be 135°F for medium-rare, 145°F for medium, and 155°F for well-done.
Let the steaks rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
