How to Cook Hamburgers With Aluminum Foil on a Gas Grill
When you fire up the gas grill, while you might anticipate big, juicy hamburgers, what you might get are dried, hockey puck-like patties if your grill or grilling techniques aren't up to speed. If you and your guests are less than impressed with burgers that stick to the grilling surface or burgers that burn while you're waiting for the cheese to melt, aluminum foil might be the answer to your grilling woes. There are several ways that you can use the foil to help you grill better burgers. Keep in mind that an instant-read meat thermometer ensures perfectly cooked burgers -- and you want to cook your burgers to an internal temperature of at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit for safety.
Things You'll Need
- Tongs
- Aluminum foil
- Burgers
- Cheese
Instructions
-
Place your hamburger patty in the center of a square piece of foil. Season the meat as desired. Bring two side ends together and fold over to seal. Roll each of the other two ends up to form a pocket. Place the foil pocket on the grill and cook as usual. When a burger is cooked to the desired doneness, remove the burger from the grill with tongs, open the foil packet and enjoy. The foil keeps the juices inside, delivering a juicy hamburger.
-
Preheat your grill. Once it is heated, cover it with a piece of aluminum foil, dull side facing up. Poke a few holes in the foil along the outer section. Allow the foil to heat for a few minutes. Place your hamburger patties on the foil and grill until done to your liking. The foil keeps the burger fat from flaring up the grill flame and also keeps the burgers cooking in their own juices so you get moist burgers.
-
Place the cheese on top of your cooked burger. Cover the burger with a piece of foil to enhance melting. Tent the foil so that it doesn't touch the cheese or top of the burger.
