What is a plec fish?

A pleco, also called a suckermouth catfish or an armored catfish, is a member of the family Loricariidae.

Plec fish are native to South America and are popular freshwater aquarium fish. They are known for their suction-cup mouths, which they use to attach themselves to surfaces in the wild and in the aquarium.

Plecos come in various sizes and colors, with some species reaching up to two feet in length. These fish are covered with bony plates, known as scutes, that act as protective armor.

Plecos tend to be peaceful fish and are often kept in community aquariums. They help keep the tank clean by feeding on algae and leftover food.

One interesting aspect of plecos is that they are nocturnal, which means they are more active at night. During the day, they may stay hidden under rocks or in caves, emerging at night to feed and explore the tank.
