Why your knife fish is discolored?

1. Stress

Stress is a common cause of discoloration in knife fish. Stress can be caused by many things, such as changes in water parameters, new tank mates, or being moved to a new tank.

2. Illness

Discoloration can be a sign of illness in knife fish. If your knife fish is also displaying other symptoms, such as lethargy, loss of appetite, or difficulty swimming, then it is important to take it to a veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment.

Here are a few specific illnesses that can cause discoloration in knife fish:

- Bacterial infections such as: Fin rot and Aeromonas.

- Parasitic infections such as anchor worms or gill flukes.

- Fungal infections such as Saprolegnia.

3. Water quality

Poor water quality can also cause discoloration in knife fish. Ensure that the water temperature is correct for your type of knife fish and the water is properly filtered and aerated.

To correct water quality ensure:

+ Perform regular water changes

+ Test the water and ensure there are no harmful substances/chemicals affecting the health of your knife fish. These are substances like Nitrates that lead to brown blood disease in your beloved.

4. Diet

The diet of your knife fish can also affect its coloration. Some foods, such as brine shrimp, can cause knife fish to become brighter in color, while others, such as bloodworms, can cause them to become darker.
