How do you heat up water for a marine change so to not stress the fish?
Pre-heat new clean water:
1. Use a water conditioner to remove chlorine and chloramines. Follow the directions on the product label.
2. Heat the water to the desired temperature. The ideal temperature for most marine fish is between 72 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit.
3. Let the water sit for at least 30 minutes to allow the chlorine and chloramines to evaporate.
4. Gently pour the heated, treated water into the aquarium. Be careful not to splash the fish or disturb the substrate.
Float fish in bags until temperature has adjusted:
1. Float the fish bags in the main display tank of your saltwater aquarium. This will allow the fish that you just bought to adjust to their new temperatures slowly and gradually.
2. Tie them shut at the top. Floating prevents cold or hot water from mixing when you first move the fish over to the new aquarium system.
3. Wait approximately 15-20 minutes for the water in the bags to equalize with the temperature in your aquarium.
4. Release the fish into the aquarium.
Tip: If you are adding multiple fish to the aquarium at once, be sure to release them one by one to avoid stressing them out.
