How does brian cook his first fish?

In the novel Hatchet, Brian Robeson catches a fish by using a spear. He has to make the fire to cook it on the first day. He cooks his fish by first cleaning and gutting it. He builds a fire using the resources available to him, such as dry wood and leaves. Once the fire is going, he places the cleaned fish directly on the hot coals. He may also wrap the fish in leaves to help it cook more evenly. He watches the fish carefully until it is cooked through, and then he removes it from the fire using a stick or other tool.
