Types of meal plans in a hotel?
There are various meal plans offered by hotels to cater to the dining preferences and budgets of their guests. Here are some common types of meal plans found in hotels:
1. European Plan (EP):
Also known as "room only," the European Plan does not include any meals. Guests pay only for their accommodations. They can choose to dine at the hotel's restaurants, explore local eateries, or make their own meals using in-room facilities like a kitchenette.
2. Continental Plan (CP):
The Continental Plan includes a simple breakfast, usually served in a buffet style. It commonly consists of items such as pastries, bread, jams, butter, coffee, tea, and juice. This plan allows guests to have a light morning meal before venturing out for the day.
3. American Plan (AP):
The American Plan is a full-board meal plan that includes three meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. All meals are typically served in the hotel's restaurant. This plan suits guests who prefer the convenience of having all meals provided during their stay.
4. Modified American Plan (MAP):
The Modified American Plan offers guests a choice between lunch or dinner, in addition to breakfast. This plan gives more flexibility compared to the full-board American Plan, allowing guests to decide whether they want to dine at the hotel for lunch or explore dining options outside.
5. Bermuda Plan (BP):
The Bermuda Plan provides guests with a full breakfast and a four-course dinner. Unlike the American Plan, lunch is not included in this meal plan. This option can be suitable for travelers who prefer a substantial breakfast and a formal dining experience in the evening.
6. All Inclusive Plan (AI):
The All Inclusive Plan is designed to cover all meals, snacks, drinks (including alcoholic beverages), and sometimes even activities and entertainment within the hotel. This plan is popular at resorts and vacation destinations where guests want the ultimate in convenience and don't have to worry about additional dining expenses.
7. Half-Board Plan (HB):
Also called the "demi-pension," the Half-Board Plan offers guests breakfast and either lunch or dinner. This meal plan provides flexibility, allowing guests to explore dining options outside the hotel for one meal while still enjoying meals at the hotel.
8. Bed and Breakfast Plan (BB):
Similar to the Continental Plan, the Bed and Breakfast Plan includes a morning meal, typically a continental breakfast. However, this plan provides more substantial breakfast options, often with hot items like eggs, pancakes, and waffles.
