When do you prune crepe myrtle?

Crepe myrtles should be pruned at the end of the winter, before new growth starts. Pruning time can be from January through March in US zone 9; December to February in Zone 8; and late February through early March in zone 7. When the trees are dormant but frost has ended is ideal.
