How long is chicken good after the sell-by date?
Raw Chicken
* Refrigerator: 1-2 days
* Freezer: 9 months
Cooked Chicken
* Refrigerator: 3-4 days
* Freezer: 2-6 months
The date you see on your chicken package is the "sell-by" date, not the "use-by" date. The sell-by date is simply the date recommended by the store for the best quality. Chicken can still be safe to eat after the sell-by date, but it may start to lose flavor and quality.
Always remember to check the chicken for any signs of spoilage before cooking it. If the chicken is slimy, smells bad, or has any discoloration, it should be thrown away.
