How to Make Roasted BBQ Chicken

Traditionally the word barbecue refers to meat cooked slowly and indirectly in a closed, low-temperature environment heated by wood charcoal and smoke; the methods and ingredients of barbecue vary depending on the region of the United States. Because traditional barbecue is impossible to replicate in a kitchen oven, roasted barbecue refers simply to roasted meat basted with barbecue sauce. Compared to traditional barbecue, roasted barbecue chicken is easier and faster but still reminiscent of traditional barbecue flavors. Anyone can prepare oven-roasted BBQ chicken for a quick weeknight meal.

Things You'll Need

  • Ovenproof skillet
  • Olive oil
  • Chicken pieces (legs, breasts and wings)
  • Barbecue sauce
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Wash the butchered chicken pieces and dry with paper towels. Season the chicken with salt and pepper.

  3. Pour enough olive oil into the skillet so that a thin layer of oil covers the surface. Heat the skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot, add the chicken pieces, skin side down, and sear them for about three minutes, until the surface of the chicken has browned. Flip the chicken and brown the other side. Perform this step in batches if all the chicken does not fit in the skillet.

  4. Remove the skillet from the heat and place the browned chicken pieces back in the skillet if you performed Step 3 in batches. Baste the chicken with barbecue sauce. Place the skillet in the oven to finish cooking the chicken.

  5. Add more sauce to the chicken after 15 minutes. Place the chicken back in the oven for another 30 minutes, until thoroughly cooked. Transfer the chicken to a platter, garnish and serve.
