How to Make Amazing Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes
Add sour cream to your mashed potatoes for a richer taste and creamier texture. Choose regular or low fat sour cream, but skip the fat-free version. Serve topped with chives, cheddar cheese or crumbled bacon.
Things You'll Need
- 5 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes
- 1 cup low fat or regular sour cream
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon kosher or sea salt
- Fresh ground pepper
Instructions
-
Peel potatoes and cut into quarters. Place the potatoes in a large stockpot and add water about 3 inches deeper than the level of the potatoes.
-
Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes fall apart when poked with a fork. Drain the water, moving the potatoes to a colander or bowl.
-
Mash the potatoes using a potato ricer or a hand mixer to remove all of the lumps. Stir in the butter, sour cream, milk, salt and pepper.
