The tradition for putting sixpence in Christmas pudding?
In the 1800s, an old English tradition was to bake coins of silver into the Christmas pudding. There was a specific order in which the sixpence coins were to be baked into the pudding: The first for the husband, the second for the wife, the third for the father, the fourth for the mother, the fifth for the son, and the sixth for the daughter. The person to get the slice with the coin in it would be assured good fortune for the coming year.
