Is it recommended by Sunnah to fast the ten days of month Zulhijja?

The ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are indeed significant in Islam, and there are several recommended deeds during this period, including fasting. However, the specific recommendation regarding fasting during these ten days varies among different Islamic schools of thought. Here are some perspectives:

1. Majority Sunni View: According to the majority of Sunni schools of thought, including Hanafi, Shafi'i, and Hanbali, fasting the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah is considered desirable (mustahab) but not obligatory. It is recommended as a supplementary act of devotion and spiritual purification during this virtuous period.

2. Maliki View: The Maliki school of thought holds that fasting on the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah (from the 2nd to the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah) is recommended, while fasting on the day of `Arafah (the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah) is discouraged.

3. Shi'a View: In Shia Islam, fasting on the day of `Arafah is recommended for those not performing the Hajj pilgrimage. If a Shia pilgrim is performing Hajj, fasting on the day of `Arafah is considered undesirable.

It's important to note that these are general guidelines, and individual scholars within each school of thought may offer different interpretations or additional considerations. Always consult with local scholars and religious leaders for the most accurate guidance based on your specific circumstances.
