Where did the powwow drum originally come from?
The powwow drum is most likely a result of the convergence of several cultures rather than a single origin; it is probable that the use of drums in North American Native culture goes back to pre-Columbian times, and drums are an integral part of numerous Native nations throughout North America. While early drums were likely indigenous Native American instruments, a number of African cultural impacts on Native American music are also well-known, and it is probable that the construction and playing of drums was one among them.
