What is the recipe for mahewu?
Ingredients:
- 5 cups water
- 1 cup maize meal (also known as corn meal)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 pinch salt
Instructions:
1. In a large saucepan, bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
2. Slowly whisk in the maize meal, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened and become porridge-like.
4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the sugar and salt.
5. Let cool for 15 minutes, then cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
6. Serve chilled.
Tips:

- You can add other flavours to your mahewu, such as cinnamon, ginger, or vanilla extract.
- Mahewu is traditionally served with roasted maize or peanuts.
