Easy Easter Desserts for Kids
Dessert is a large part of the Easter celebration, to the delight of sweets-loving kids. Chocolate became an integral part of Easter in the early 19th century, when the exchange of chocolate eggs grew popular in Germany, France and eventually all of Europe.
Children can make their own Easter desserts using the traditional themes, with or without chocolate.
Peanut Butter Eggs
-
To make these no-bake treats, combine 1/2 cup of peanut butter (soy nut butter would work, too) and 3 tbsp. soft butter in a bowl. Gradually add 1 cup of confectioner's sugar until a dough forms. Children can then form them into "eggs" and roll them in white, chocolate or pastel-colored sprinkles.
With an adult's help, children also can dip the peanut butter eggs into melted white or chocolate candy coating.
Dipped Fruit
-
Easter means spring, and spring means fresh fruits and vegetables. Use fresh fruit as the base of this super-easy dessert. No heating or cooking is required when children take fresh strawberries on bamboo skewers and dip them into whipped frosting or cream. Serve on a plate, or eat them as you go.
A fancy treat that even a kid can make.
Brownie Eggs
-
A twist on the old-fashioned chocolate egg: Use cool pre-baked or purchased brownies and cut them into egg shapes with cookie cutters. Children can decorate with purchased icing in a tube. Don't use gel icing--it won't show up well on the dark brownie surface.
Bunny Sundaes
-
You can't have Easter without bunnies. Scoops of ice cream become curious rabbits with the addition of ladyfingers or long sandwich cookies for ears, chocolates for eyes and a cherry for a nose. Trim thin pieces of licorice for whiskers. Have a camera ready--these desserts won't last long.
