Is it safe for baby to drink green tea?
Green tea contains caffeine, which can cross the placenta and reach the baby. Caffeine can cause several problems in babies, including:
Rapid heart rate, Jitters, Insomnia, Acid reflux, Dehydration
Green tea also contains tannins, which can interfere with the absorption of iron. Iron is an essential nutrient for babies as it helps their brains develop.
For these reasons, it is not advisable to give green tea to babies under 12 months old.
After that, it is still important to limit green tea intake to avoid the potential risks associated with caffeine and tannins.
Consult with a pediatrician before offering green tea to a toddler in any form.
