Should you drink tea very hot?

Drinking excessively hot beverages including tea has been linked to an increased risk of esophageal cancer. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified beverages above 65°C (149°F) as "possibly carcinogenic" to humans, based on evidence that they can damage the cells lining the esophagus. Chronic inflammation and scarring caused by repeated exposure to high temperatures may contribute to the development of cancerous changes.

Therefore, it's recommended to allow hot beverages like tea to cool down before drinking them. Aim for a temperature that is comfortably warm but not scalding hot to reduce the risk of potential health problems.
