Why do we pour very hot tea in a saucer?

It is usually recommended to pour hot tea into a teapot or ceramic cup which can tolerate the high temperature, not into a saucer. Saucers are typically shallow and small with low heat tolerance as they are mainly intended to catch any spills from the cup during pouring or sipping.
