Why is the camellia called 茶花 tea flower in Chinese?

Camellia sinensis is an evergreen shrub or small tree grown for its leaves that are processed and dried to make tea.

However, the Chinese name of Camellia japonica, not Camellia sinensis, is 茶花 tea flower. Camellia japonica is a flowering plant indigenous to China.
