How to Make a Blueberry Martini (8 Steps)

A blueberry martini is an uncommon mixed drink that has a tart, slightly sweet flavor. When made with real blueberries, it is an elegant and interesting drink that can spark conversation and wow your guests. Making a blueberry martini without the actual fruit, on the other hand, transforms the drink into something that you can whip up in just a few seconds but has a similar flavor.

Things You'll Need

  • Fresh or thawed blueberries, optional
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Spoon, optional
  • Vodka, white rum or white tequila
  • Blueberry liqueur
  • White wine, optional
  • Superfine sugar, optional
  • Lemons or limes, optional
  • Ice
  • Martini glass
  • Toothpick, optional

Blueberry Martini With Real Blueberries

  1. Place a handful of fresh or thawed blueberries in the bottom of a cocktail shaker and use the back of a spoon to mash them until they begin releasing juice, in a process called "muddling."

  2. Add eight parts vodka, white rum or white tequila and one part blueberry liqueur to the shaker. Optionally, add a splash of white wine, a pinch of superfine sugar, or a spritz of fresh lemon or lime juice for more flavor.

  3. Place a handful of ice cubes into the cocktail shaker and shake the drink mixture for 1 minute to thoroughly blend the blueberry juice with the alcohol.

  4. Strain the martini mixture into a martini glass. Garnish the martini with a few blueberries on the end of a toothpick, a lime wedge or a lemon wedge to dress up the presentation, if desired.

  5. Serve the blueberry martini immediately.

Blueberry Martini with Blueberry Liqueur

  1. Combine two parts tequila and one part blueberry liqueur in a cocktail shaker. Add a bit of superfine sugar, lemon juice, lime juice, white wine or any other flavorings you would like; the extra ingredients are optional.

  2. Drop a few ice cubes into the cocktail shaker and shake the drink for a few seconds to blend the ingredients. If you added superfine sugar, shake the mix for about a minute to ensure it dissolves.

  3. Strain the drink into a martini glass. Add an ice cube or two, a lemon wedge or a lime wedge to dress it up.
