Can RC cola and Mentos explode?

Mixing RC Cola (or other carbonated sodas) and Mentos causes an eruption or spray of soda from the bottle due to a rapid release of carbon dioxide gas. Mentos candies contain a gelatin-based coating, which provides numerous nucleation sites for the dissolved CO2 gas to rapidly form bubbles, leading to a sudden release of gas and liquid from the bottle. This results in a spectacular eruption or spray of soda.
