Where does the fruit lemon come from?

Lemons are believed to have originated in northeastern India and subsequently spread throughout Southeast Asia. They were first cultivated in India around 1200 BC, although they were likely grown before that. Lemons were brought to Europe by Arab traders in the 10th century and later introduced to the Americas by Christopher Columbus in the 15th century. Today, lemons are grown in many tropical and subtropical regions around the world, including California, Florida, Arizona, and Texas in the United States. India is the largest producer of lemons, followed by China, Mexico, and Argentina.
