Where does the word coffee come from?
The word "coffee" comes from the Turkish word "kahve".
Here's how it got to English:
* Coffee beans originated in Ethiopia and were initially consumed there.
* The beans were then traded to Yemen in the 15th century, where they were brewed and enjoyed as a beverage.
* The Turks adopted the drink and the word "kahve" for it.
* During the 16th and 17th centuries, coffee spread to Europe through trade with the Ottoman Empire.
* The word "kahve" was adapted into "coffee" in English and other European languages.
So, while coffee's origins are in Ethiopia, the word we use for it comes directly from the Turkish language.
