How to Clean a Krups Automatic Coffee Maker (9 Steps)
One of the most important elements of making a great cup of coffee is keeping the coffeemaker clean. Coffee deposits oils that create a residue in the coffee pot and can alter the taste of your brewed coffee.
Using a Krups automatic coffeemaker can make a high-quality pot of coffee, but it should be maintained on a weekly basis, especially if it's used daily. These coffeemakers are designed to be easily cleaned.
Things You'll Need
- White vinegar
- Water
- Rag
- Bleach
Clean the Filter Basket and Pot
-
Remove any old coffee grounds from the Krups automatic coffee maker.
-
Brew a full pot of water without any coffee in it to prepare the machine for cleaning.
-
Add 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts cold, filtered water. Pour the solution into the water basin of the coffee pot. Turn the pot on and let it brew a full pot.
-
Allow the hot water/vinegar solution to sit in the coffee pot for 15 minutes, then empty it.
-
Fill your sink with cool water and one cap-full of bleach. Soak the filter basket and coffee pot for 10 seconds to kill any bacteria or mold that might have grown in either component.
-
Run one last cycle of water through the Krups automatic coffeemaker and discard the water.
Wipe Down
-
Wipe down the remaining parts of the Krups machine with a warm, damp cloth.
-
Wipe the outside, the warmer, the inside of where the brew basket sits and the underneath of the brewing element.
-
Use an all-purpose cleaner on the shell of the machine, but not in it.
