How to Froth Milk Without a Frother (4 Steps)
Frothed milk adds flavor and a smooth, velvety texture to cappuccinos and other coffee-based drinks. A cappuccino machine or milk frother creates the perfect milk froth, but such devices can be costly and impractical for the average person. Instead, when you need milk froth, you can create a thick-yet-soft milk foam with basic items found in almost any kitchen.
Things You'll Need
- Clean jar
- Microwave
- Spoon
Instructions
-
Fill a clean jar with 6 oz. of milk. Use at least a 12 oz. jar to allow for expansion of the milk.
-
Screw the lid on the jar to create an airtight seal. Shake the jar vigorously for 30 seconds to incorporate oxygen into the liquid. The milk should nearly double in volume.
-
Remove the lid and put the jar in the microwave. Cook the milk at full power for 30 seconds. The heat creates a thick frothy foam on top of the milk.
-
Scoop the foam from the top of the jar and gently lay it on top of the coffee.
