1. Decide which Nashville establishment you want to buy your keg of beer from. In 2009, readers of the "Nashville Scene" voted Frugal MacDougal, Yazoo and JJ's Market as the best places in Nashville to buy a keg.

2. Call the store and find out which types of beer they sell by the keg. Ideally, you should call at least a few days in advance to make sure they have your beer in stock.

3. Determine if you need a full, half, 1/4 or 1/6 keg. Tell the store representative how many people you will be having at your party and ask for their recommendation on keg size.

4. Place the order for the keg over the phone. In addition to the cost of the beer, you will have to pay a refundable deposit on the keg barrel. The store may require that you make payment in full over the phone or allow you to pay when you pick up the beer.

5. Request the rental or purchase of a tap if you do not have your own. You will need a tap to access and pour the beer.

6. Set a date and time to pick up the keg.

7. Bring a truck or car with a large trunk when you pick up the keg. Ask a friend to come along to help you move it.

8. Show the cashier at the store your driver's license as proof of legal drinking age, and pay for the keg if you have not already.
