How to Cover a Pie Crust With Foil
When you bake a pie in the oven, the edge of the crust remains exposed to the heat. The crust turns an unpleasant color and often burns, which affects the taste. To prevent the crust from burning, you can cover it with aluminum foil so that the heat does not contact the crust directly. This will allow you to monitor the pie while it bakes to keep the crust a golden brown.
Things You'll Need
- Aluminum foil
- Ruler
Instructions
-
Bake the pie in the oven for 15 minutes.
-
Use a ruler to measure 3- to 4-inch wide strips of aluminum foil that are 6 inches in length.
-
Tear or cut the strips and lay them in a stack until you have enough to cover the entire pie crust. The amount that you need will depend on the size of your pie.
-
Remove the pie from the oven carefully.
-
Fold the strips around the rim of the pie pan and over the edges of the pie crust. Cover the edge of the pie crust with the foil completely.
-
Place the pie in the oven, and bake it for the recommended time. If you feel like the crust needs to brown more, remove the foil 5 to 10 minutes before it finishes baking.
