How to Make Cute Animal Cake Pops (6 Steps)

There are as many ways to make animal cake pops as there are animals to create. Cake pops consist of cake balls on lollipop sticks. The balls are frozen to help solidify the shape, as well as to prepare them for a candy coating and decoration. Turning the frozen balls into animals takes some time and effort, but it’s relatively easy to do.

Things You'll Need

  • Cake pops
  • White chocolate chips
  • Small saucepan
  • Plastic foam block
  • White frosting, tube
  • Black frosting, tube
  • Milk chocolate chips
  • Milk chocolate frosting, tube

Cat Cake Pop

  1. Melt white chocolate chips in a small saucepan over low heat, mixing constantly. Dip a frozen cake ball into the melted candy. Slide the bottom of the lollipop stick into a plastic foam block to keep the ball upright. Repeat the process for each ball. Freeze the balls until the coating is hard.

  2. Remove the cake balls from the freezer. Cut the tip from a tube of white frosting. Place a dot of icing on a cake ball where a cat’s ears would go. Place a white chocolate chip, round side down, onto each dab to create pointed cat ears. Repeat the process with each cake ball.

  3. Pipe large circles with white frosting where the cat’s eyes would be. Cut the tip from a tube of black frosting. Place a small, vertical slit on each white circle to create the cat’s eyes. Pipe a black frosting nose and mouth onto the cat. Add small dots on either side of the cat’s mouth to indicate whiskers. Repeat this process with each cake ball. Slide each cake ball back into its plastic foam hole. Place the cake balls back in the freezer until frosting hardens.

Bear Cake Pop

  1. Melt milk chocolate chips in a small saucepan over low heat. Dip a frozen cake ball into the candy coating. Slip the bottom of the lollipop stick into a plastic foam block so that the ball remains upright. Repeat the process for each ball and freeze the balls until the coating hardens.

  2. Remove the balls from the freezer. Cut the tip from a tube of chocolate frosting. Squeeze a dot of frosting on the ball where the bear’s ears would be. Place a milk chocolate chip, with the pointed side facing backward and the round side facing forward, onto each dot to create round bear ears. Repeat process with each cake ball.

  3. Pipe a large circle of white frosting where each bear eye goes. Cut the tip from a tube of black frosting. Place small dots on each white circle to create the bear’s eyes. Pipe a triangle nose and smiling mouth onto the bear with black frosting. Slide the bottom of the lollipop stick into the plastic foam. Repeat the process with each pop. Freeze the pops until frosting hardens.
