Turning a Yogurt Drink Into Frozen Yogurt

If you don't own an ice cream maker, your frozen yogurt made from a yogurt drink will not be as creamy as store-bought frozen yogurt, but it will still be delicious. With an ice cream maker, simply pour the yogurt drink into the processor in the same way as you would add cream or milk. For homemade frozen yogurt, the process takes 2 to 3 hours and requires a bit more effort. While frozen yogurt doesn't have the beneficial bacteria of the yogurt in your drink, it retains the vitamins, protein and calcium of fresh yogurt.

Things You'll Need

  • Freezer-safe glass baking dish
  • Timer
  • Fork or whisk

Instructions

  1. Pour the yogurt drink into a glass baking dish. The size of the dish doesn't matter, but if you need the yogurt to freeze quickly, choose a large dish so the drink spreads out to only 2 or 3 inches deep.

  2. Place the dish, uncovered, into the freezer and set a timer for 30 minutes. If you are freezing only a single serving of the yogurt drink, check the mixture after 20 minutes.

  3. Stir the drink mixture with a fork or a whisk every 30 minutes to redistribute the ice crystals that form. You'll know the mix is finished when it achieves a firm consistency in 2 to 3 hours depending on the amount of the yogurt drink you are using.

  4. Take the frozen yogurt out of the freezer and serve immediately. If you aren't serving the yogurt as soon as it reaches the proper consistency, plan on taking it out 30 minutes before serving so if softens enough for scooping.
