Classic Twists

• Some rum-infused trifle treats come from other well known and established desserts. Tiramisu lends itself well to trifles because the original dish is already layered -- you can whip up a quick and easy tiramisu trifle with a little over a handful of ingredients, including mascarpone cheese, ladyfinger cookies, eggs, cream, sugar, espresso, cocoa powder and, of course, rum. Another rum trifle that borrows from the classics is a bananas Foster trifle, made with bananas, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and chocolate pudding, dark rum, milk, whipped cream and ladyfingers.

Fruity Fetes

• Fruit trifles with rum are like fruit parfaits -- but with an added kick. If you are craving berries, try an all-American trifle with blueberries and strawberries along with pound cake, sugar, cream, white chocolate pudding, yogurt and rum. The tropical rum trifle goes for an island feel with mangoes, pineapple, bananas, coconut custard and coconut flakes as well as pound cake, macadamia nuts, whipped cream, powdered sugar, vanilla extract and rum. For a quick trifle, try an individual strawberry and vanilla one with rum, strawberries, custard, yogurt, sugar and mint.

• Some rummy trifle desserts spice things up with a little zing. The white chocolate strawberry trifle takes the flavor in a different direction with white chocolate, strawberries, cream cheese, pound cake, heavy cream, coffee, strawberry preserves and spiced rum.
