How to Arrange Tiramisu in a Trifle (5 Steps)

The Italian dessert tiramisu is traditionally assembled in a loaf pan, inverted and removed from the pan, then sliced and served. Tiramisu is essentially a trifle, so it is just as easy to assemble it in a trifle dish -- a footed serving bowl with tall sides, usually made of glass. This makes an impressive presentation and eliminates the tricky step of getting the tiramisu out of a loaf pan. Just take a little extra time assembling it so that it looks lovely from the outside, then grab a giant serving spoon and enjoy.

Things You'll Need

  • Trifle dish
  • Ladyfingers
  • Soaking liquid
  • Custard
  • Offset spatula or spoon
  • Cocoa powder, optional
  • Grated chocolate, optional
  • Fresh berries, optional

Instructions

  1. Create a single layer of ladyfingers at the bottom of the trifle dish. Fit them together snugly to ensure that you will be able to see this layer from the outside of the dish.

  2. Drizzle the soaking liquid -- usually a mixture of coffee and liqueur -- over the ladyfingers. Alternatively, roll the ladyfingers in the liquid before arranging them in the trifle dish.

  3. Spoon enough custard over the ladyfingers to cover them completely in a thick layer. Gently work the custard to the edges of the dish and smooth the surface using an offset spatula or the back of a spoon.

  4. Repeat the layers of ladyfingers, soaking liquid and custard until you've used all of your ingredients, ending with a custard layer.

  5. To garnish, dust the top with cocoa powder, sprinkle with grated chocolate or top with fresh berries, if desired.
