Could cream cheese be substituted for sour in a recipe?
Cream cheese is not a suitable substitute for sour cream in most recipes. Sour cream has a distinct tangy flavor and a thick, creamy texture that is difficult to replicate with cream cheese. While you can use cream cheese as a substitute when cream cheese is the main ingredient, I wouldn't recommend using cream cheese as a replacement for sour cream in recipes where the sour cream is a supporting ingredient.
