Who made the first peice of candy?

It's impossible to say definitively who made the first piece of candy. Candy making likely arose independently in different cultures around the world, and predates written records.

Here's what we do know:

* Ancient civilizations: Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans all had their own forms of candy. Egyptians used honey and dates, while Greeks favored figs and nuts. Romans made a type of candy called "confectum," a combination of honey, nuts, and spices.

* Sugar's role: Sugar, which is a key ingredient in most candies, was introduced to Europe from the Middle East during the Crusades. This led to a boom in candy making.

* Modern candy: The modern candy industry started with the invention of the candy bar in the 19th century, and has been constantly evolving since.

So, while we can't pinpoint the first candy maker, we can say that candy making has a long and fascinating history, with roots in many different cultures.
