Why are Skittles packages the color that they are?

The color of Skittles packages is based on the color of the rainbow. The original five Skittles colors were introduced in 1979 and included red, orange, yellow, green, and grape. In 1982, blue was added to the mix, and in 2013, purple was introduced. The current Skittles package features a rainbow-colored background with the Skittles logo in white.
